If you have a small space, you may feel like you’re closed in. but there are things that you can do to help your space look bigger. Below are ten tips that you can use to help your space look bigger even without spending a lot of money.
1. Clear out any clutter
The clutter is going to make your room feel small and cramped. Work out the ways that you can get any collections where they can’t be seen, like using table skirts, putting them on shelves or other things. It will help your space look more open and orderly.
2. Open up the room
With accessories and furniture blocking your room’s view and to the open spaces, your room is going to look cramped. When you move the furniture out and from the walkways, you’re going to open up your space and it will feel much bigger. It’s also a good idea to select shorter furniture pieces like ottomans or low tables and put tall, large pieces close to the wall. You want to be able to see your floor.
3. Chose light, soft hues
Even though warm, dark colors will make your space feel intimate and cozy, cool light colors are going to make it feel airy and open. Green and blues soft tones are the perfect choice.
4. Use a color scheme that’s monochromatic
Select colors which are in the same family of colors and use upholstery fabrics that are tone-on-tone, delicately toned curtains and wall finishes that are textured. Warm, delicate colors and cool colors on most of the surfaces will make your home look open.
5. Coordinate furniture and wall covers
When your colors contrast, it will break up your space. Furniture won’t interrupt your room as much and they’ll blend better with your space if they are matching your wall color.
6. Let the light in
Your room is going to look larger if it’s lit well. You can use artificial or natural light. Remove heavy drapes and open your windows to let the sunlight to come into your room. Install some track lighting or add additional lamps for night time.
7. Make it clear
When you are using material that is clear rather than opaque, anything that you look at through it is going to seem further away. When you have a small bathroom, you can use a clear shower door. It will look much bigger. It’s also a good idea to use lucite or glass for your tabletops. With a nice, sturdy base of stone, metal or wood, the area around your table is going to look bigger.
8. Reflective Surfaces
Even though you may not like how mirrored walls look, there’s no disputing that it’s going to make your room look bigger. You can use a huge mirror on one of your walls or you can stand a big mirror up against one of your walls. You’re still going to feel like your room’s bigger and increase your style. The light and space will reflect so that your room feels more open.
9. Use bigger furniture
Rather than a lot of smaller furniture pieces, use the bigger pieces of furniture or accessories. With large color blocks and open space, your room is going to look more comfortable and calm.
10. Use Light and Airy Fabrics
Sheer fabric is going to let the light to go through the window treatments, table covers, furniture slipcovers and bed skirts. If you’re looking for something rather than a plain color, simple stripes or floral vines are going to be perfect. It will make a huge difference.
