When the weather turns warm we start thinking about how the sun can affect us. Many people think about the sun damage that happens to our skin, especially regarding skin cancer and premature aging. But another problem that the sun can cause is damage to the inside of your home.
Whether you have bare floors or you have carpeting, the sun rays beating in can cause your furniture and floors to fade over time. Window treatments and drapery can help, but having an extra layer of defense will ensure your furniture is protected from harmful UV rays.
How the Sun can Damage Certain Items in Your Home
So just like you are protecting your skin with sunblock when you are outside, it’s a good idea to protect the inside of your home and your furniture with window tint.
The majority of antique furniture has likely been exposed to sunlight in the past before it was bought and moved into your house. So that you can prevent it from being damaged further, try keeping it from being in direct sunlight to help protect it. When it is exposed to a lot of direct sunlight, it can make that beautiful furniture darken and crack eventually.
Just like it can do to wooden furniture, being exposed to sun for extensive periods of time can make your hardwood floor become darker or become faded and dull as time goes by. Try limiting how much direct sunlight your floor is exposed to and use a finish on your floor that helps with protecting against damage from the sun.
Carpeting and Rugs
Spots on your rug or carpet can fade or bleach after being constantly exposed to the sun. If you are able to, try limiting the amount of sun exposure carpeting and rugs receive.
If you are lucky enough to have an enclosed patio or deck, or even if your furniture stays outside, you want to protect it just like you would any other type of furniture. Being constantly exposed to sunlight can cause your furniture to become faded, dull, or even crack. It’s best to keep the furniture out of the sunlight as much as possible and cover it up when it’s not being used.
Furniture in Your Home
Fibers in your furniture can weaken as time goes by and as it’s constantly exposed to the sun. This can make your furniture look faded and dull and make it grow weaker as time goes by.
Paintings, photographs, and other types of art can grow discolored and even fade if they’re exposed to direct sunlight. Protect your memories and your beautiful artwork by protecting it from the sun.
One of the best ways that you can protect the items in your home and even yourself from the sun coming through the window is by tinting your windows in your home. This will help your home’s décor and furnishings to last much longer and save you money since you won’t have to always replace your furniture and your carpeting.
Take pride in your home and in your furniture by protecting it with window film.
